What this calculator solves
Use Tape Usage to plan carton-sealing length for either a top-and-bottom center seam or an H-seal pattern. It counts seam geometry and end overhang across a carton batch. It does not select tape construction or determine whether a seal pattern is adequate.
How to choose the inputs
Measure the formed carton length and width along the actual seam paths. Set overhang from the approved closure instruction and count only cartons using this pattern. Choose H-seal only when the operating specification calls for edge seams; reinforcement strips must be calculated separately.

How to interpret the result
Review tape per carton before multiplying the batch. Convert total length into rolls using usable roll length and add measured start-up, splice, and dispenser loss separately. An unexpectedly high total may come from an H-seal choice, excessive overhang, or mixing carton sizes.
Common mistakes
- Counting only the top seam and forgetting the bottom.
- Applying H-seal geometry while selecting center seam.
- Using carton height where seam width is required.
- Dividing by nominal roll length without allowing for unusable remnants.
Assumptions and limitations
The model covers straight top and bottom seams only. Tape width, adhesion, carton surface, temperature, tension, reinforcement, rework, and seal-performance testing are outside the length calculation.
