It creates a batch-specific execution record linking job number, SKU, instruction revision, planned quantity, station, operator, material identifiers, user-set checkpoints, and closeout fields. The traveler helps keep one production run traceable without copying customer personal data or rewriting the master method for every batch.

How to choose the inputs

Enter a unique job or batch number and the exact instruction ID and revision intended for the run. Planned quantity and checkpoint interval must be positive whole numbers, and the interval cannot exceed the job quantity. Choose an interval from the operation’s own risk and review process; the tool supplies no industry average. Add material or lot identities only when those fields belong in the operating record, and avoid sensitive customer information.

How the workflow logic works

The generator validates the required identifiers and numeric bounds. It creates checkpoints at each complete interval and always adds the final planned quantity when it is not already an interval point. To keep a printable page and the browser responsive, more than two hundred checkpoint rows are rejected. Optional station, operator, date, and material identities receive blank write-in lines when omitted. No job is scheduled, stored, or approved.

Worked example

Job JOB-082 releases 180 units of CND-01 under PK-014 Rev B with checks every 45 units. The traveler creates rows at 45, 90, 135, and 180, plus material-issue and closeout areas. If the closure lot changes after unit 90, the operator can record an exception reference rather than silently treating the substitution as part of the standard method.

How to interpret the output

Before work begins, verify the traveler points to the current controlled instruction and that issued materials match the intended record. During the run, use each checkpoint according to the operation’s defined observation method. At closeout, reconcile completed, reworked, or scrapped quantity and route open exceptions to the named owner. Preserve the traveler under the operation’s retention practice.

Common mistakes

  • Issuing a traveler before the instruction revision is confirmed.
  • Selecting a checkpoint interval because it looks typical rather than from a documented process.
  • Recording material changes without an exception reference.
  • Calling a completed traveler proof that the package prevents damage.

The generated sheet does not reserve inventory, control a line, verify signatures, provide an electronic audit trail, or certify product and package quality.
