Definitions and operating notes
- Length
- Usually the longest finished external side for carrier size calculations.
- Width
- The next-longest side after length when sides are ordered by size.
- Height
- The remaining side; also called depth in some carton catalogs.
- Girth
- The distance around the two sides perpendicular to the package length.
- Internal dimensions
- Usable space inside the carton, relevant to fit and void planning.
- External dimensions
- Outside finished measurements, relevant to transport space and DIM weight.
- Clearance
- Planned space for insertion, tolerances, and protective materials.
- Billable weight
- The weight a carrier uses under its current rating rules; it may consider actual and dimensional weight.
